Langtang - Tsergo Ri Trek

Langtang Valley Trek is one of the popular and delightful treks near Kathmandu. This breathtaking trekking region stands between the popular Gosaikunda Lake and Tamang Heritage Trail in Rasuwa district of Nepal. The entire trek region is inhabited by Tibetian Buddhist followers. This region borders Nepal to China in the North.

This hiking was one of the great adventures for us. We planned it as a short trip of 7 days according to our vacations and the weather conditions during. Here’s a short overview of how this trip went for us.

Way to Tsergo-Ri

Day 1: Drive from Kathmandu to Syabrubesi

We started from Machchha Pokhari, Kathmandu at 7:30 AM on Nov 19, 2022. Syabrubesi (sometimes called Syaphrubesi) is around 137 km from Kathmandu via Pasang Lhamu Highway and Prithvi Highway. We had our seats reserved on a local bus serviced by Timure Yatayat. We stopped at Bidur, Nuwakot for lunch. It was almost 12:00 PM then. We reached Syabrubesi at around 3:00 PM. We had some snacks there in a hotel on the way. To warm ourselves up we planned to climb up to Pahiro which was around two hours of walk from Syabrubesi. We checked into the first lodge there and stayed overnight.

Day 2: Climb from Pahiro to Ghoda Tabela

We started our trek early in the morning after having breakfast at the lodge. The trail was steep and rocky, but the views were breathtaking. We reached Ghoda Tabela after around five hours of trekking. It was a long and tiring day, but the beautiful scenery kept us going.

Day 3: Hike from Ghoda Tabela to Kyanjin Gompa

We woke up early and continued our trek towards Kyanjin Gompa. The trail was relatively easier compared to the previous day, and we reached Kyanjin Gompa after around four hours of trekking. Kyanjin Gompa is a traditional Sherpa village and the gateway to the Langtang Valley. We explored the village and enjoyed the stunning views of the mountains.

Day 4: Kyanjin Gompa to Tsergo-Ri and back

We decided to do a day hike to Tsergo-Ri, which is a popular trekking peak in the Langtang region. The trek was challenging, but the panoramic views from the top were worth it. We spent some time at the summit and then hiked back to Kyanjin Gompa.

Day 5: Climb down from Kyanjin Gompa to Lama Hotel

We started our descent from Kyanjin Gompa towards Lama Hotel. The trail was easier compared to the previous days, and we reached Lama Hotel after around six hours of trekking. We stayed overnight at a lodge in Lama Hotel.

Day 6: Lama Hotel to Syabrubesi

We started our trek early in the morning and continued our descent towards Syabrubesi. The trail was steep and challenging, but we managed to reach Syabrubesi in the afternoon. We stayed overnight at a hotel in Syabrubesi.

Day 7: Drive back to Kathmandu

We started our journey back to Kathmandu early in the morning. We reached Kathmandu in the afternoon, concluding our memorable trek to Langtang.
